Monthly Musical Update

Dear Parents,

This month in Music, Grade 9 students have worked on preparing ensemble music showcasing their improving fingerstyle skills on guitar.  They chose their own music and worked hard in groups to prepare it for an in-class performance.  We are also beginning a new project where the students will be learning about music from a variety of genres and presenting for the class next month.

Please keep an eye on your school email over the next couple of weeks, as we will be making several announcements related to Talent Quest.

Musically yours,

Ms. Shay

GP January newsletter

This month students will work on their practice paper for Cambridge. Students will practice their research, outlining and note taking skills when working on their reports. Students will use the rubric to ensure that they are meeting the needs laid out by Cambridge. This year will be a practice paper so that next year when they write their actual paper to turn in, they will be better prepared!

Grade 9 students worked on Presentation Authoring. We have discussed the consistency as the main focus in presentation. Students have worked on slide master to organize the look and layout of the presentation, as well as inserting header and footer items. They learnt how to insert slides from outline and add presenter notes. Consistent slide transitions and animations were encouraged when preparing slide shows.
Outputting presentation in forms of audience notes, handouts and slides was taught as well.

January Chemistry Newsletter

This month students will learn about Acid and Base
This unit builds on ideas from earlier units. The concepts of this unit will be revisited in Units 6, 8 and 9.
This unit starts with the introduction to the usefulness of a word equation to summarize reactants and products (this might have been introduced in earlier units). Word equations can then be written for the reactions of acids and bases. There is a considerable range of practical work that can be carried out. Opportunity for learners to research the common products used in the home that is acidic/alkaline in nature and apply this knowledge to some everyday examples of neutralization reactions indigestion
tablets, insect bites or stings. In addition, learners can make and test their predictions in relation to salt preparation.

These are the main topics we will cover for IGCSE combined science
  • ·        Characteristic properties of acids and bases
  • ·        Preparation of salts
  • ·        Suggest a method of making a given salt from suitable starting material, given appropriate information
  • ·        Identification of ions and gasses
